Your Getaway to Primland

Looking for a unique getaway this season that provides plenty of wide-open spaces and fresh air? Primland Resort is a boutique luxury destination in southwestern Virginia amid 12,000 Blue Ridge Mountain acres near the North Carolina border. The property’s essence is the unspoiled natural beauty that abounds at every turn – it has also recently become part of the exclusive Auberge Collection, which always go above and beyond to create unforgettable travel experiences.

And while the spectacular landscape inspires all who experience it, there are two distinct parts to Primland Resort: The serene part includes the full-service spa, sumptuous lodging, superb meals, cocktails, and refined yet rustic decor; and the adrenalin-pumping part that offers hunting, fly fishing, hiking, biking, and RTV trail riding.

The resort sprang from the imagination and vision of Founder Didier Primat. It was his desire to create a luxurious place where nature shined through every aspect of the property. Judging from the honors that Primland Resort has accrued – including being named the No. 1 Resort in the South by Conde Nast Traveler Readers in 2020 – he succeeded wonderfully.

Need more reasons to plan your getaway? We have five...

1. The Tree Houses: Perched on the edge of the mountains and a short drive from the Lodge, Primland Resort’s three Tree Houses are a retreat from your retreat. These intimate cabins are built around the solid branches of the treetops – each giving way to sweeping views of the majestic Kibler Valley and North Carolina piedmont from the comfort of a vast private deck. While conjuring memories of childhood, the Tree Houses feature luxe amenities that pamper the body and spirit.

2. The Spa: Native American healing rituals, European spa techniques, and organic products and essential oils are used in tandem to provide you with the most relaxing and revitalizing experience possible. Treatments such as massages, facials, yoga and meditation come together to offer a specialized, personal experience for men, women, couples, teens, and children.

3. The Fly Fishing: A six-mile stretch of the scenic Dan River runs through Primland Resort, and it is rugged, remote, and home to beautiful wild brown, brook, and rainbow trout. For fly casters seeking less challenging Blue Ridge Mountain fishing, the broader and more forgiving Kibler Valley section of the Dan River is located nearby. Guided fishing is available on a catch and release basis at both rivers from April through November, depending on weather and stream conditions.

4. The Deep Space Stargazing: There’s no better place to reconnect with nature than the scenic and lively mountains of Virginia, and their fully equipped Observatory takes it to a whole new level. Primland Resort’s altitude and the unusual clarity of the property’s night sky present you with the opportunity to study stars, planets, nebulae, and amazing celestial objects with an absence of ambient light. The Celestron CGE Pro 1400 and CPC 800 telescopes provide extraordinary glimpses of the heavens, and of objects even beyond our solar system.

5. The Golf: The Highland Course at Primland Resort showcases the area’s breathtaking vistas. The 18-hole Audubon Sanctuary-certified course was carved from the natural landscape of the mountains by renowned golf course architect, Donald Steel. Ranked by Golf, Golfweek and Golf Digest as one of the "Top 100 Courses You Can Play" (out of more than 13,500), the Highland Course attracts players of all skill levels who return time and time again to celebrate the compelling design and unparalleled beauty.
